With my recent switch in cell phone carriers, I decided to try life without a smartphone for a while. I have made it almost a month without a smartphone and I have yet to self-destruct. I hardly miss it at all. The constant beeping and vibrating of my old phone was a life suck. I continually was being notified of Facebook notifications, personal emails and work emails. Now that I do not continually have to check my smartphone and I have a battery life of more than six hours, I can allow myself to put my cellphone out of my consciousness. I can come home, leave my phone on my dresser, and spend time with my wife. The last movie I want to was Twilight. As I was sitting in the theater waiting for the movies to start, I noticed that every single person in the movie was on their smartphone. It was madness! Everyone was in attendance with friends, family, or loved ones, but there was no communication amongst these loved ones. I started to watch as I went out to dinner and such I noticed that the city of Memphis is Zombieland. The citizens of Memphis walk around, unaware of their surroundings, like zombies. With their bluetooth units in their ears and their cellphones in their hands, these zombies are lifeless beings shambling through the streets. It is inevitable that flip phones will be phased out, but one can hope.
