East Buntyn ArtWalk

Yesterday was East Buntyn's annual ArtWalk. As a new inhabitant to the East Buntyn neighborhood, my wife and I went to the 2012 ArtWalk. It was an experience unlike anything we have ever been to. It was a great chance to meet local artist and more of our neighbors. It was neat to see the residents of East Buntyn offer up their front lawns as art galleries. We made several small purchases, gathering little knickknacks, as we strolled up and down the streets. The artist weren't pushy and the weather was perfect. This yearly event, yet again, continues to bring ambitious artist and new styles to our community. My favorite pieces of art were watercolor paints by Jerry Whitt. The painting below is one of his original pieces. He has a large collection of chess themed work. The best part of his work is that all proceeds are donated to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Attending a community event, such as ArtWalk, makes me want to do more. I like the feeling of being involved. I won't, however, be jumping up and down to volunteer to run anything, yet......

In other Memphis news: It was announced that Muddy's Bake Shop will be opening a new location. Unfortunately, this location will be VERY close to me--too close! The new Muddy's will be opening in the historic Broad Commercial District. This will replace their baking operation on Cooper. This location will be much larger than their last cooking area, which will grant them the extra room that they desired, allowing them the room to sell, sell, sell! I have the same sentiments as owner Kat Morgan, when Morgan says that opening the new location will is “going to be freaking awesome!”
