I have found my new favorite place to eat breakfast on the weekend. The last few Sundays, my wife and I have gone to Bob Barksdale's on Cooper near Union. They have delicious food and are fairly inexpensive. There is something about eating at a local restaurant and not a chain that makes me happy. I am not a nut that is anti-corporation or against chains. I just know that by going to a local restaurant, they will have better ingredients and overall better quality of food.
The one place I have not been able to find is a good late night hangout / diner. I would love to find a diner that is open 24 hours where I could go late at night and get some cheap food. I know that Memphis has its Waffle House and CK's locations all over Memphis, but they are gross. I want an experience that doesn't make me feel sluggish afterwards. I am sure there is a place just as I described, I just have yet to find it. The closest establishment that I found to be close to this is Perkins on Poplar and Highland. They have a wide assortment in their menu and they are open 24 hours. The only problems that I have is that the crowd that is there tends to be loud and obnoxious, and it is over priced. On a positive note, they have DELICIOUS milkshakes.
